He’s trading in his helmet and football for sugar and flour — Wes Lyons has opened his own bakery!
The former Pittsburgh Steeler officially began a new career Saturday with the grand opening of Cakery Square in the Waterfront Shopping Center in Homestead.
Earlier in July, Lyons announced the new venture on his Facebook page.
While some people were a bit surprised to hear of the former athlete’s career switch up, the news was met with mainly positive, excited responses.
Cakery Square’s grand opening drew a crowd full of friends, family, media, dessert lovers, and even a couple celebrity guests.

While Lyons himself will not be doing the baking at Cakery Square, he and partner Amber Greene will own and run the business.
Lyons, originally from North Braddock, also hopes to give back with the business — he’s striving to create jobs and opportunities for underprivileged youth, as part of his Lyons Pursuit Program, WTAE reports. The new store is hiring local students to give them real world work experience.
Cakery Square will sell cakes, pastries, specialty teas and gelato.
