New daily precipitation record set in Pittsburgh

The National Weather Service says Pittsburgh has broken the daily precipitation record for January 12th, and more is expected tonight.

According to the NWS, rain will change to freezing rain and sleet as snow starts to work into parts of the area.

The NWS has received reports of flooding along Connoquenessing Creek in Beaver County. Anyone who lives or plans to travel along the creek is advised to be aware of the flooding and changing conditions.

1.64 inches of rain fell through 5 p.m. and that number is expected to go up as precipitation is expected to fall for several more hours.

That precipitation breaks the previous record on .97 inches set in 1907.
